The Silver Queen Gondola is a popular attraction in Aspen, Colorado that connects the town of Aspen with the top of Aspen Mountain. The gondola takes about 14 minutes to reach the top and rises 3,267 feet (996 meters) from start to finish. It is the longest single-stage gondola in the world and travels 2.5 miles to the top of Aspen Mountain.
The peak of Aspen Mountain is 11,212 feet and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The gondola ride to the top of the mountain is a must-do activity for visitors to Aspen, whether in summer or winter. In the summer, visitors can enjoy the world’s highest official disc golf course, kids’ activities, yoga, and Sunday Bluegrass Concerts, amid miles of trails to bike and hike. Lunch is available for purchase at the Sundeck. In the winter, skiers and snowboarders can access over 75 trails from the top of Aspen Mountain. If you aren’t a skier, you can still ride the gondola with the purchase of a “foot pass” sold at the ticket office, to enjoy lunch and sunshine at the Sundeck Restaurant. Another alternative to skiing is to snowshoe Richmond Ridge with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, who offer daily tours.
The gondola operates during specific hours in both summer and winter seasons. Summer runs from June 16 to September 4, 2023, with daily hours of operation from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and the last ride down at 4:30 pm. Winter runs from November 24, 2022, to April 16, 2023, with uploading at 9:00 am and the last ride down at 4:00 pm. The sightseeing pass for the winter season is priced at $46.
